What Happened: What Happened: I got a call one day form a general contractor who said he was doing some work in the neighborhood, and did I need any work done on the house. Well in fact, we needed the roof repaired and some water damage to the ceiling and walls repaired. This guy came over and said if we signed a contract today, we would get a 25% discount. So we signed a contract and gave him one third of the money. Well, the guys he sent over to do the work were a bunch of incompetent, lazy, beer swilling !#$&*%. I called the contractor a number of times and got nothing but promises to fix it. But no improvements on the work. I finally threatened t call the contractors board and my lawyer. We settled the amount I stilled owed him. I got someone else to finish the work.Lesson Learned: Don’t let anyone do work for you unless you get references first. And never, never, sign with someone who pressures you to do it now.
The Details: If the guy was a good contractor why was he cold calling people to get work. If he was good, he should have all the referrals he needs.
