What Happened: When I was in the Army we got a brand new 2nd lieutenant assigned to the company. When he first spoke, his accent sounded like he was off the set of Beverly Hillbillies. I mean, this guy was from so far back in the woods that they must have had to carry the moonshine out packed on mules. I thought, “here is another dumb a** who is going to get us all killed”. Lesson Learned: Don’t jump to conclusions based on what people look like, or sound like. Details: Turns out the lieutenant was a summa cum laude graduate of Vanderbilt University and a Rhodes scholar. He just happened to be born and raised somewhere where the King’s English was a foreign language. He was to good guy, a good leader, and never did anything that would risk our lives.
